Oh, Henrietta

44th Street’s Ashley selected The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot as our next book club book and, trust me, it’s one you’ll want to read. In short: an African-American woman in 1950s Baltimore is diagnosed with cervical cancer and, unbeknownst to her or her family, her cells are used to kickstart the last half-century’s worth of cancer research. Skloot exploration of this event and its consequences (in terms of ethics, race, and history) is legitimately thrilling. Devour it this month and join us for a discussion at the Park Ave shop on Friday, October 24th.

The Sun Never Sets

Posted on September 13, 2011

We’ve been preparing for months, and as of 6am tomorrow we will finally have expanded our little coffee empire, if only a few blocks northeast. A few baristas you might recognize from our other stores are ready and excited to start something new, and we’ve armed them with 2 beautiful new Synesso Machines, a wide open space, and the same great coffee you’re used to from our other shops. Stop by this week and have a shot or two.

Jocks vs. Nerds

A week ago we had a little in-house Thursday Night Throwdown at the Park Ave store, and man did we have some fun. Our baristas all put forth solid efforts, but it came down to the home team matchup of Park Ave favorites Jessica and Angela, with the former triumphing in a very close contest. Check out some photos of both the throwing down and the partying on our Facebook page! We can’t wait to do it again soon.

Grrrrrowl

As those of you who have visited our shops or read our Twitter in the past few weeks know, we’re pretty excited about these new Iced Coffee Growlers. They’re selling at $5 for the Growler itself plus $21.50 for each 64oz fill of delicious cold brew (along with a few cups of ice, if you need ‘em), and they seem to be catching on quite quickly. There’s still time to take one to the beach!

Look! A new website!

With our third shop open for a little over a year and a fourth one on the way in a matter of weeks, now is an exciting time for Gregorys. It also seems like the perfect time to return from the virtual wilderness known as Not Having an Actively Updated Website. So we are very happy indeed to introduce this new site, and we hope you’ll have a look around.

Some good places to start:

  • Learn more about our coffees and brew methods.

  • Head to The Counter to view upcoming Gregory’s events and scope out your competition for Foursquare Mayorships.

  • Learn more about our first Featured Employee, Fashion Ave Head Honcho Rachel.

  • Find the Gregorys nearest to you and invite a friend to meet you there on our Find a Shop page.

There’s a lot explore and even more to come.
