We're all about geeking out and learning new things, especially coffee things, and for this month's Coffee Learning Time we're focusing on strength.
Strength is essentially the concentration of dissolved solids (coffee) in a beverage. It is not indicative of roast, caffeine content, or flavor.
If you like equations: Strength= total dissolved solids / total beverage mass
Flavor is the extraction percentage of dissolved solids (coffee) in a beverage.
So when your espresso tastes like grass, it has most likely been under-extracted. But when it tastes like a big chocolatey hug, it was most likely properly extracted.
So what do you do when you want a truly strong-like-bull beverage at Gregorys?
A prime choice would be a red/black/purple eye because it has roughly the same amount of liquid but with double or triple the amount of coffee.
